Like everyone else, we are on a journey. This summer–in the heart of the worst recession in living memory (our living memory, anyway)–we voluntarily left our jobs, put our house on the market, and said goodbye to 13 years’ worth of good friends and all the advantages of living in a moderate-sized city (Cincinnati). The dream? To purchase a 23-acre family farm in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and see if we could make a go of rural life. We are part of the trend of young (ok, middle-aged), educated people seeking a closer connection with the land and a sense of rootedness and “place.”
This blog is for those who are interested in following a couple of newbie homesteaders as they tackle the challenges of small-time farming. But don’t worry; Matt has no plans to quit his day job any time soon!
It’s also for those who share our passion for the the Church. We would love to generate some lively conversation on that topic. If that conversation leads to concrete action, even better.
We’ve been told that blogging is so “yesterday.” If that’s the case, then it’s a good medium for us, since we are pretty “yesterday” ourselves. We just missed the hippie generation, but we might have fit right in–except we’re clean and don’t do drugs. Besides, we lack the technology to Twitter.
Feel free to comment, but please be charitable in your remarks. We love feedback, advice, critique, and lively debate.
